Members of SJRYC are welcomed with membership privileges at reciprocating Yachting Club of America yacht clubs almost anywhere in the world.

Reciprocity policy

SJRYC is a member of the Yachting Club of America.  Membership in the SJRYC entitles a Member to be welcomed at all reciprocating yacht clubs almost anywhere in the world.

SJRYC offers reciprocity to any current Member of any yacht club more than 20 miles away from the SJRYC who does not own or charter a boat permanently moored within the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Marinas as long as a current membership card and corresponding ID can be produced.

SJRYC maintains a membership in the Yachting Club of America so that we are published in their list of clubs that grant reciprocity.  Members may ask to check the list, located behind the bar, for any club that they plan to visit.  A very few show “restricted”, “limited”, or “none” for reciprocity, in which case, call ahead to determine if there are any special requirements that must be met in order to use their club, or if they have a blackout period.  It is sometimes a requirement for a letter from the SJRYC General Manager stating that the SJRYC Member is a “Member in Good Standing”.  It is always a good idea to call the club prior to a visit so that there is no disappointment at their door.

Members should ask to look at the Yachting Club of America Blue Book for information on a specific club they may wish to visit.

Please welcome Members visiting from other yacht clubs as you would like to be welcomed yourself.  We have a reputation of being a very friendly, pleasant place to visit.  Often, visiting yacht club members bring a burgee to exchange with ours.  You may wish to do the same when visiting another Club and may purchase a burgee at the Club.
