Program: The SJRYC swim team program is designed to provide swim instruction and competitive training for age group swimmers 5-18 yrs. The program will promote competitive swimming for all levels of ability. The purpose is to give both experienced and novice swimmers the opportunity to compete and to improve their skills. The season runs from early June through late July.

Requirements: Swimmers must be able to swim one length of a 25 yard pool and their families must be members of the St. Joseph River Yacht Club.

Age Divisions: Each swimmer competes in an age group based on the swimmer’s age as of June 1st.  The age group divisions are as follows:

7 and under

8 year olds

9-10 year olds

11-12 year olds

13-14 year olds

15-18 year olds

Swim meets: The SJRYC swim team competes in a swim league through the Michiana Association of Private Swim Clubs (MAPSC).  There are 4 dual meets in 2011 and a conference meet.  Transportation can be arranged for away meets if needed.  Volunteers are greatly appreciated, especially during home meets.

8:00 – 9:50am (M-F)  High School or USS level swimmers, chosen by the Head Coach.

8:30 – 9:50am (M-F)  Experienced swimmers capable of swimming all strokes.  Approximately 2,000 yds/day.

10:00 – 10:55am (M-F)  Intermediate swimmers.

11:00 – 11:30am (M-F)  Young children who can swim one length, but need extra help.  There will  be an additional charge for swimmers in this group.

5:30 – 6:30pm (M-TH)  All swimmers unable to attend morning practice due to unavoidable conflicts.

 

Dual swim meets are held on Wednesdays, both home and away.

Conferences will be held Wednesday July 20th, 2011.  Please keep an eye open for swim team emails but be aware that home meets generally start around 10 am.  Check the club's calendar for up-to-date information.  The Swim Banquet date will be held Thursday, July 21st, 2011 at 5pm.

Parent Volunteers are very much needed to run a successful swim program.  Parents are needed at home meets as timers, scorers, marshalls, etc.  Addiitonally, some parents may volunteer to make ribbons the day following swim meets.

For away meets, some parents are needed as drivers and as helpers for the host team.  Please do not hesitate to volunteer because you are new to the swimming scene.  None of it is hard to learn and it really is more fun to be involved.  Additionally, the "Swim Moms" can always use help from other parents.

"Swim Moms" - Each year two to three parents volunteer as "Swim Moms".  These individuals help coordinate the swim program and assist the Swim Coaches as needed.
