2010 Tri-State Regatta Information

Open to the Public!!!

Welcome to the SJRYC home for information relating to the 2010 Tri-State Regatta and the weekend festivities that will accompany it.

Note: If you want your boat name on the back of our T-Shirt, you must be registered by August 30th, 2010.

Tri-State Volunteering

To put on a successful party of this size (and to generate the club's much needed revenue) we must rely on volunteers to assist in the planning and execution of the event. If you haven't already signed up to help, sign-up sheets are available in the lobby of the SJRYC this allowing you to choose your role and times.  Available volunteering opportunities include: Ticket Sales, Kitchen Prep, Merchandise, Beer Truck, Rhumbline Bar and more!

Schedule of Events

The SJRYC is proud to have many exciting events scheduled throughout the holiday weekend. Read through the Schedule of Events below and click the link for the event flyer for additional information:

Friday Night (09-03-10)

Instead of the TGIF dinner that traditionally welcomes the weekend for our membership we will hold a special Volunteer Dinner.  This complimentary dinner is available to all of those members that are offering their time to ensure that the Tri-State Regatta Party goes smoothly and maximizes the club's profitability.

While our volunteers enjoy the meal, preparations will already be taking place in the kitchen for the meals that will follow on Saturday.  Of course our sailors will also be leaving Chicago on their way across the lake to join us at the SJRYC!

Saturday (09-04-10)

The fun begins early as we will open the bar at 7:00 with Bloody Mary, Screwdrivers & Mimosas available for our early arriving sailors and anyone who wishes to come down and watch the boats come in.

Also at 7am the club will begin serving its traditional breakfast that includes pancakes (with and without blueberries!), scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits & Gravy and more!

Still Hungry? The club will have no shortage of dining options available to you as we will begin serving our "Cheeseburger in Paradise Lunch" at 11am.  For only $6 you can enjoy a burger with all the fixin's and potato chips.

The party really gets started at 5pm when Steve Foresman takes the stage to entertain us with a mixture of rock, folk, classic country, and rhythm & Blues.  Steve will play until 8pm and will be sure to have the crowd rockin'!  Click the link below to see the poster for Steve's performance.

The event's amazing, annual dinner starts at 6pm and will be served until 10pm.  This delicious meal includes your choice of Grilled Steak or Chicken ($18/$13) in addition to Sweet Corn, Caesar Salad, Fresh Local Fruit and more!

The Award Ceremony will be held at 7pm and is a great opportunity to cheer for your favorite yacht or find out how well you and your team sailed.

You'll know that the party is in full swing at 8pm when a band, new to the SJRYC, takes the stage.  We are proud to welcome Libido Funk Circus to our biggest party of the year and are extremely excited to hear what promises to be a great performance!  Don't forget that we will have two bars in service and a beer truck pouring your tapped favorites.  Be sure to invite your friends, family, neighbors & co-workers to the club to enjoy this exciting event with you!  Click the link below to see the poster for the Libido Funk Circus!

Sunday (09-05-10)

The Sailors will rise on Sunday morning, clear headed and energetic while ready for the second leg of their journey.  They will be met at the club with fresh donuts, coffee and juice to give them a proper send off.  Watching the boats sail out to the lake makes for an exciting family outing.  Look to this section in the coming days for information regarding the ships anticipated departure times.

Sunday Night will also give us the chance to enjoy Fireworks (scheduled just after dusk)!  In order to help everyone enjoy the fun we will keep the Rhumbline Bar open until Midnight!

Monday (09-06-10)

The club will be hosting a special Labor Day Party to complete the amazing weekend.  This "open to the public" event will be complete with an al fresco dinner and the Live Music of Jenna Mammina.  Jenna will take the stage at 4pm and always puts on a fantastic show!  Click the link below to view the poster for this special event!

Rafting Rules in St. Joseph River Harbors

The St. Joseph River Harbor is a commercial waterway, and freighters may enter and leave the harbor at any time. For safety purposes, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Berrien County Sheriff's Department Marine Division have determined that all boats should stay well clear of the railroad swing bridge, rafting far enough away to permit the bridge to open and also to permit normal boat traffic to pass on both sides of the bridge. All boats rafting off the seawall on the south side of the St. Joseph River (next to the St. Joseph City Arboretum, between the railroad swing bridge and the Blossomland bascule bridge over the river) may raft only five boats deep. Boats are permitted to raft off the seawall on the east side of the Blossomland bridge (again, on the south side of the river), but due to the narrow width of the Morrison Channel, they may only raft one deep.

Boats may now also raft off the new SJRYC dock in front of the club up to 5 deep. There will be no charge for racers. Depth varies up to 8 feet.

There will be Coast Guard officers and Sheriff's Deputies on duty in boats on the river early Saturday morning; Please feel free to ask for their help in rafting, and likewise, be prepared to follow their instructions. As before, The T-10s should form rafts in West Basin Marina, west of the Railroad Bridge on the north side of the river. Please be wary of boat slips tied off for returning racers.

When rafting off the Arboretum wall, do not tie up to any trees or walkway fences or guardrails. Also, please be aware that the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the St. Joseph Arboretum proper is a violation of local ordinance, and the St. Joseph City Police will enforce that law.

The St. Joseph River is approximately twenty feet deep in the harbor area, and depending on conditions, there may be a strong current and/or surge from Lake Michigan.
