SJRYC Sail Racers Have a Great Showing in Tri State Leg 2 to Michigan City
Sunday’s leg to Michigan City saw light air conditions, a far cry from the near record speeds of Friday night’s leg from Chicago. However our club’s sailors had another great race. Wellenreiter took a 2nd place finish in Section 2 of the fleet; Captain Blood, a 2nd in Sec.3; Sea Raider and Silk, a 1st and 2nd respectively in Sec. 4 ( which was Silk’s second flag of the weekend. In Sec. 5 Cynthia continued their winning ways with a 1st place flag in Sec. 5, this on top of their 1st overall in fleet on Friday night.
Many of the crew members of these boats grilled up a great dinner for us at the party on Saturday and thus deserve a big THANK YOU in addition to kudos for a great performance. Again this summer, our sailors are representing SJRYC very, very well.
THANKS again to Mike Thieneman, Bill Womer and Eric Mallen for ably assisting the MCYC Race Committee on the Sunday starting line.
If you went down to the club and pool on Sunday afternoon, you probably noticed that other than the tents there was virtually no sign of a party of over a thousand people celebrating sailing and music the night before. Our fantastic volunteer and club staff members had it all cleaned up by noon. What a great job! Thanks all

2014 Tri State leg 1 from Chgo to St. Jos is in the books. 15-20knt southerly winds, all night long resulted in what may turnout to be the fastest Tri State ever! Nearly every competitor commented on their finish time being their personal best. Storms were clearly visble on land all night but for most clear skies and stars were the norm overhead.
The party, orchestrated by Chair Laurie Canfield and her staff of 100s of volunteers, and the great SJRYC staff team was another outstanding and exciting event; and may be the best attended ever!
SJRYC racers performed well again with flags awarded to Chateau Ste. Michelle, Silk and of course Cynthia. Of special note, Cynthia had the best overall finish, on corrected time, of well over 90 boats that completed the race. Nearly every competitor in the fleet had one of their fastest personal elapsed times ever.
In addition to kudos to Laurie and her team, a very special thanks go out to Mike Thieneman for accomodating the Col. YC Race Committee overnight and again Sunday morning with MCYC's R/C for leg 2. Mike was well assisted by Bill Womer, Gordie and Mary Dill and Eric Mallen.
Great work all, as nothing but praise came in from participants, officers of the other clubs involved and attendees of our party. WELL DONE!
