Tri-State Regatta Weekend
Saturday, September 4th - 6th

The club's largest and most important party of the year is quickly approaching! This season's party promises to be better than ever as we have an action packed weekend planned for you. The itinerary includes a Mimosa & Bloody Mary Bar for you to enjoy as you watch the boats come in on Saturday morning, three bands playing throughout the weekend (SEE POSTERS BELOW), a gorgeous pancake breakfast, a traditional steak dinner, cocktails galore and more! Of course it is also important to remember that to put on a successful party of this size (and to generate the club's much needed revenue) we must rely on volunteers to assist in the planning and execution of the event. If you haven't already signed up to help, sign-up sheets are available in the lobby of the SJRYC this allowing you to choose your role and times. Thank you to all of our SJRYC volunteers! Please click the links below to see posters for Tri-State weekend!

TGIF Dinner w/Guest Speaker - Valarie Van Heest
Friday, September 24th

Rhumbline Regatta

Did you know there are upwards of 6000 shipwrecks and sunken aircraft in the Great Lakes? Did you know that nearly fifty of those lie within just a few miles of our West Michigan Shoreline. Did you know that there is a group based in Holland MI that has found, researched and documented hundreds of these wrecks...........and did you know that there is lineage of several of the more mysterious losses and discoveries to our community and Club? Did you know that a best selling author of over forty books, and a wreck hunter of fame himself with over eighty shipwreck discoveries has become involved with that related history?

SJRYC is pleased and very excited to add what is sure to be a spell binding presentation to our Speakers' Series entitled LOST AND FOUND SHIPWRECKS OF SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN. If you're a Diver, a Historian, or just an Armchair Adventurer, this program will spark your passions. Mark your calendars for Fri. Sept. 24th @ 8:00PM to see Valerie van Heest of the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association as she brings stories, photos and film of her team's explorations and discoveries to our club.

Valerie Olson van Heest a member of the Board of Directors of MSRA has been involved in shipwreck exploration, and interpretation for over 20 years, leading the documentation efforts on dozens of shipwrecks. She was recently inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame and is a 2007 recipient of the Historical Society of Michigan award for excellence of achievement in the preservation and promotion of state and local history. She is an author of three books, two of which have received Michigan State History Awards, and is a regular contributor to Michigan History Magazine, and a variety of other publications. Her work has been featured in the book, Voices of the Sweetwater Seas, and Shipwreck Hunter and her shipwreck site drawings appear in several diving books. She has written and directed more than a dozen documentary films, has appeared on television news networks as well as the History Channel, and is a regular presenter at museums, libraries, and film festivals sharing the dramatic stories of ships gone missing on the Great Lakes. Valerie has served as project director for two grants from Michigan Humanities Council and has designed several museum exhibits. She is a founding member the Underwater Archaeological Society of Chicago and the Southwest Michigan Underwater Preserve. Visit her web page.

This is a very special event for only a min. $5.00 donation to the MRSA organization Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, whose mission is to preserve and promote Michigan's submerged maritime history. The organization's work includes research and documentation of submerged cultural resources and the creation of educational programs and materials.

Say Cheese!!!

Last season, the club secured photo space that allowed us to publish pictures on the web for everyone to enjoy! We would like to ensure that every event moving forward has a great "photographic record" kept that allows those that didn't make it to check out the fun or those that did make it to relive the experience. Click the link below to look at pictures of our recent BBQ Cook-off & Bocce Ball Tournament. There are also pictures from last season. We will continue to upload photos throughout the year, so please, check back regularly! If you have any pictures that you would like posted, please send them to Lucas Smith (admin@sjryc.com).
